Four scopes, four price models

A home Level 2 install and a twelve-port depot are different trades that happen to involve the same connector. Home work is priced per job and turns on panel capacity. Everything else is priced per port and turns on service capacity, make-ready and how long your utility takes to energise it.

A Level 2 charger on an attached garage wall, close to a panel with spare capacity, generally runs $850 to $2,200 installed. The two things that push it past $3,000 are a service upgrade and a trench. There is no federal credit on a residential charger placed in service after June 30, 2026, so the only money left is your state and your utility.

Business and workplace

$4,500 – $9,500

Networked Level 2, per port, before make-ready credits

Networked Level 2 for a workplace or retail site typically runs $4,500 to $9,500 per port installed; DC fast starts around $50,000 per port and is dominated by service capacity, not by the charger. The timeline is usually set by your utility, not by your electrician, and utility make-ready programs are where most of the recoverable money now sits.

Fleet depots

$3,500 – $9,000

Depot Level 2, per port, before make-ready credits

Depot Level 2 typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 per port and DC fast runs $55,000 and up, but on a fleet site the controlling number is your service capacity, not the port price. Load management across a dwell window is almost always cheaper than upsizing the service, and phasing the build around the utility's energisation timeline is what keeps vehicles moving.

Parking and multifamily

$5,000 – $11,000

Lot or multifamily pedestal Level 2, per port

Pedestal charging in a lot or an apartment community typically runs $5,000 to $11,000 per port, with trenching and footings driving most of the spread. The harder questions are not electrical: who authorises work on shared service equipment, how residents are billed for the energy, and whether your state's right-to-charge statute changes the answer.
