EV charger installation in Texas: cost, rebates and permits
Texas is the hardest state in the country to answer the electric vehicle (EV) charger rebate question in, because in much of it the company on your bill is a retail electricity provider that does not own any wires. Charger rebates are sponsored by the utility that owns the distribution system, or by municipal utilities and cooperatives outside the competitive market — so the name on your bill is frequently the wrong place to look.

Retail choice makes the usual shortcut wrong
In competitive parts of Texas, your retail electricity provider sells you energy and sends you the bill, while a separate transmission and distribution utility owns the poles, the wires and the meter. Incentive programs for charging equipment attach to the wires, not to the retail contract, which means switching provider does not change what you qualify for and the provider's name tells you almost nothing. Outside the competitive market, municipal utilities and member-owned cooperatives run the whole stack themselves and set their own programs. There is no federal tax credit for an EV charger installed today — for a home or for a business. Public Law 119-21 moved the termination of the Section 30C Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit to June 30, 2026, and both halves of it ended on that date: the 30% residential credit capped at $1,000 per port, and the business credit of 6% (30% with prevailing wage and apprenticeship) capped at $100,000 per item. The separate Section 30D and 25E clean-vehicle credits ended for deliveries after September 30, 2025.

My Texas electricity provider is not on your list. Why?
Because in competitive parts of Texas your provider sells energy and does not own wires, and charger rebates are sponsored by the wires company. Look at the transmission and distribution utility named on your bill, usually in smaller print near the delivery charges. That is the entity whose programs apply to you.
Why are there no Texas city pages yet?
Because none has cleared our publish gate. A city page requires a verified serving utility and a sourced permit authority at minimum. Publishing a Texas city page before the retail-versus-wires distinction is resolved would produce a confidently wrong answer, which is worse than no page.
