What a general home inspector actually checks
Not much, and that is by design. Before anyone prices a 40 or 48-amp circuit, a good electrician looks at the panel the same way a dedicated panel inspection does: open the cover, check the bus and terminations for heat damage and corrosion, confirm what the panel's own listing label allows, and run or review a load calculation against the service you actually have. Code compliance that lives in the panel, not the new circuit

Why a 40 or 48-amp charging circuit raises the stakes on all of this

No federal credit changes this math
Section 30C terminated for property placed in service after June 30, 2026, under 26 U.S.C. §30C(i) as amended by section 70504 of Public Law 119-21. There is no federal credit offsetting a panel inspection, a panel replacement, or the charger circuit itself. State and utility rebates are a separate, non-national picture — check the program terms for your utility by name before assuming anything applies.
